Official Server Tool Easy Beginners, 2-10 players Yes
Docker Container Medium Tech-savvy, 10-50 players Yes
Radmin VPN Very Easy Friends only, no tech skills No
Paid Hosting Easiest 24/7 servers, 50+ players No

System Requirements

Players CPU RAM Upload Speed

5-10 players Intel i5 / Ryzen 5 8GB 10 Mbps
11-25 players Intel i7 / Ryzen 7 16GB 25 Mbps

1 Official Hytale Server Tool (Recommended)

Download the Server Tool

Go to hytale.com/server-tools and download for your OS

Configure Settings

Set server name, max players, game mode, and port (default: 5520)

Port Forward

Forward UDP port 5520 in your router settings

Share Your IP

Find your public IP at whatismyipaddress.com and share with friends

Important: Hytale uses UDP protocol, not TCP. Make sure to select UDP in your router settings.

2 Docker Container (Advanced)

For advanced users who want better performance and easier updates.

docker pull hypixel/hytale-server:latest
mkdir ~/hytale-server && cd ~/hytale-server
docker run -d --name hytale-server \
  -p 5520:5520/udp \
  -v ~/hytale-server:/server \
  --restart unless-stopped \
  hypixel/hytale-server:latest

3 Radmin VPN (No Port Forwarding!)

Can't port forward? Radmin VPN creates a virtual network so friends can connect without router configuration.

Download Radmin VPN

Install on host AND all players' PCs from radmin-vpn.com

Create Network

Host creates a network with password and shares with friends

Find Your Radmin IP

Look for IP like 26.x.x.x in Radmin VPN window

Share Radmin IP

Friends connect using your Radmin IP (e.g., 26.84.123.45:5520)

Essential Server Commands

Player Management
/kick <username> [reason]
/ban <username> [reason]
/whitelist add <username>
/op <username>
Server Control
/stop
/save-all
/reload

Common Issues

"Connection Timed Out" error

Port not forwarded correctly or firewall blocking. Double-check that you forwarded UDP (not TCP) port 5520. Add firewall exception for the server executable.

Server lag / rubber-banding

Insufficient RAM or slow upload speed. Allocate more RAM in server config. Check if your upload speed is at least 2 Mbps per player.

Server crashes on startup

Corrupted world file or incompatible mods. Try deleting the world folder to regenerate. Remove mods one by one to find the culprit.
